New Year's Eve: PREPARE THYSELF! (Part Deux: The Hangover)

Cure for the (not-so) Common Hangover

There are a lot of homegrown cures for Hangovers, but only a few actually work and have scientific fact. In this post, I'll give you some of the ones that work well and without making you swallow a gallon of jalapeno sauce. Stick with these simple solutions and you'll be back to 95% by 2 or 3pm. Not bad!

First: The V8
Probably the best all-around hangover cure is V8. It contains fluids to help rehydrate, potassium to help you balance those fluids, and B vitamins to help you balance enzymes in your blood stream, plus salt to help your system absorb the fluids. Don't buy the low sodium kind.

Spell Banana
Let's not forget the almighty banana. It is loaded with potassium which, again, helps balance your fluids, helps normalize the heartbeat, and sends oxygen to the brain (which will reduce that dizzy feeling you have). Plus it's loaded with needed sugars to replace the one's you hyper-burned thanks to the alcohol.

Bring it Home
If your stomach can manage it, I keep V8's by the six pack around the house and force myself to drink one BEFORE I go to bed. Then one the very next time I wake up, whenever that may be (could be a few hours or several hours). If you do this you'll usually be able to avoid the complete hangover. If you want the banana, make it in to a banana milkshake. Mix some banana, honey, and milk into a blender. The banana gives you it's goodness, the honey helps settle your stomach and adds sugars, and the milk gives you the much needed fluids.

Sleep!
Try to do the above drinks during the few times you awake. The rest of it, you need to try and sleep. The last thing your body needs is you trying to "sweat it out" or force it to stay awake when it doesn't want to. Sleep is good repair time.

One Thing NOT To Do
Most people's hangover cures include some popping two Advil or Tylenol. If you must take a pain medication, take aspirin. It will help the pain and thin your blood back out just like the alcohol did, helping cure some of the ailment. Taking Ibuprofen (Advil) or Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is already hard on your liver, adding those two drugs after a night of alcohol can make the liver shut down, blur your vision, even send you in to a coma. This is what we at the Martini Lounge call "A Bad Thing."

And In Conclusion
Other sites will try to tell you to moderate your drinking, or prepare yourself, or something chummy like that. Martini Lounge is not that site. You never know when a drinking night will break out and can't always be prepared, but the above are surefire recipes for getting over it quickly. Now go on, get outta here. Do us proud.
