The Vodka War in Europe makes US news
The EU has been in a fight for a few years about what actually constitutes vodka. Of over 500 posts on this blog I've only covered the topic 1 other time, mostly because it's a big policy fight about economics and has little to do with the people that actually care about vodka.
However, the NY Times is covering it and has done a pretty good job of synopsis of the story up until now. At the heart of the story is the question of whether vodka must be made from a potato or a grain, or if it can be made from pretty much anything, such as grapes, maple syrup, or malted barley.
The story gives some good history about the origins of vodka, what it is today, and the current fight that's going on.
